2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem has reached No. 352 in the ATP rankings after a wrist injury and several physical challenges.
The Austrian is currently ranked 98 in the ATP rankings and could go straight into the main draw in Melbourne if the higher-ranked player pulls out.
Emma Radukanu won the 2021 US Open by qualifying (the first player in the Open era to do so at a major tournament), but the player, whose father is Romanian, has undergone wrist and ankle surgeries and is currently ranked 299 in the WTA rankings.
The Briton used the protected ranking rule (ranked 103) to qualify for the 2024 Australian Open and would need five eliminations to easily make the main draw.
Other big names to play in the Grand Slam Qualifiers in Melbourne: David Goffen, Diego Schwartzman, Benoit Pere, Maxime Cressy (ATP), Sara Errani, Su-Wei Hsi, Alize Cornet, Kaia Kanepi (WTA).
The 2024 Australian Open will be held from January 14 to 28. The reigning champions are Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenko.
