The car in the presidential motorcade was at an intersection near the campaign headquarters, about 40 meters from Biden. Agents immediately pulled over the Delaware-registered sedan and pointed their guns at the driver.

Security agents immediately loaded Joe Biden into a waiting car and drove him away from the building in downtown Wilmington. “The president and first lady are fine,” said a White House official who witnessed the incident.

Reporters had gathered on the sidewalk outside the campaign office, where the president and Jill Biden were having lunch with their team, having just asked Biden a question when the collision was heard.

Journalists were quickly herded by staff to join the convoy as it left the venue in the rain. Biden arrived safely at his family home without further incident.
