In 2020 Ford and Volkswagen formalized a partnership in the field of light SUVs and electric vehicles, which have foreseen future synergies to develop several joint models by 2025. In 2021, the tandem materialized this cooperation by launching Tourneo Connect/Caddy. The next year, 2022, the public found out Volkswagen Amarok pickup truckclosely followed by the new generation Ford Ranger. With the exception of SUVs, Ford used the Volkswagen MEB platform to develop its own electric crossover Explorer. Other discoveries are also included Tourneo Custombuilt on the same platform as future Volkswagen Transporterwhich is just beginning to show itself, until the official presentation in the spring of 2024…

Transit-based Transporter and Caravelle

The Transporter has been one of the benchmarks in the medium van segment for several decades. AND the new model intends to return to the top of the segment in terms of technology and engines. As such, it will offer a wide range of engines ranging from diesel and electric to hybrid. And what other recent model offers such a choice? Ford Transit Custom of course! And it makes sense considering the partnership between the two! This is observed in the proportions and general design of the model which is about to be revealed. Thus, the Transporter will be the third (utility) model resulting from the collaboration of the two brands in the segment of professional vehicles, after the duo Ranger/Amarok and Caddy/Tourneo Connect. And it will immediately be offered as a station wagon, as well as in a version for passenger transport, intended for shuttles, no less famous Caravella.

Capri and Fiesta?

After that, what will be left of the partnership? There is good large Crafter/Transit vans, but they are not part of the negotiation. Likewise, the small Ford Transit Courrier, introduced at the beginning of the year, is a pure Ford product from which Volkswagen will not benefit. On the other hand, both brands have yet to say their last word private cars. After the Explorer, Ford will use a second Volkswagen model to expand its range: the ID.5 crossover. This will spawn an electric crossover coupe that could revive the Capri name, and will be released in 2024. That’s all? Not sure… If you read us regularly, you’ll know that Ford has removed the legendary Fiesta from its catalog this year… What if it was resurrected from the ashes thanks to Volkswagen?
