What could have been a simple fight on the streets of Paris turned into a tragedy: an argument between a passenger on an electric scooter and a pedestrian in the 14th arrondissement of the French capital got out of control on Tuesday evening.

The scooter user deliberately hit the pedestrian but died in the collision, a police source told Le Figaro.

Despite the quick arrival of rescuers, the man on the scooter died in less than an hour.

The driver of the two-wheeler lost consciousness after the collision with the pedestrian, and there were traces of blood on his head and on the floor at the scene of the accident.

According to the same source, the pedestrian suffered an ankle injury and was taken to hospital, adding that alcohol and drug tests came back negative. (News.ro)

On September 1, Paris became the first European capital to completely ban these two-wheeled ride-sharing vehicles.

Many Parisians are tired of watching them zigzag through pedestrians, even the 10 km/h speed limit in certain places, or parked in the middle of sidewalks. In addition, several accidents would occur because of them.

Three operators, Lime, Tier and Dott, lost their permission to occupy public space after an unprecedented referendum in early April. The “against” camp won by almost 90%, but only 7.46% of people from the voter lists came to vote. The socialist mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, herself opposed them in order to reduce the “nuisance”.
