The lower house, controlled by Tusk’s pro-European alliance, earlier on Monday rejected a proposal to form a new government of the populists, who have been in power since 2015.

Out of 456 deputies who took part in the voting, 266 voted against Prime Minister Mateusz Moravetski, who was supported by only 190 legislators.

“We say goodbye to PiS, history is being written,” Monika Roza, an MP from Donald Tusk’s Civic Coalition (KO), wrote on X.

Donald Tusk, the former president of the European Council, has promised to mend Warsaw’s relations with Brussels and unblock billions of euros in funds meant for Poland that have been held up because of rule of law problems.
