More than a month after Mircea Lucescu resigned from the technical leadership of Dynamo Kyiv, boss Ihor Surkis made a decision regarding a new coach.
Oleksandr Shovkovskii, replacement of Mircea Lucescu on the bench of “Dynamo” Kyiv.
The news of Mircea Lucescu’s resignation came as a complete surprise to everyone, including the leadership of the Dynamo Kyiv club.
After his departure, the former goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskii was engaged in the training of the team as a temporary coach, and now the boss Ihor Surkis decided to express his full confidence in him, appointing him as the head coach.
Shovkovsky is a true legend of the club, for which he played for at least 24 years, from 1992 to 2016, having played 426 matches in the first league of Ukraine alone.
A former international player who played 92 matches for the national team, the goalkeeper began his coaching career as the second in the Ukrainian national team in 2018, and this year also returned as an assistant to Dynamo Kyiv.
He took the step up as an interim to now get a chance to coach the team he spent his entire career with.
