The story between our loyal reader Denys and Land Rover reflects his passion for the brand.
her Discovery 2.0 TD4 HSE 150 4WD, purchased in February 2016, is actually the fifth model purchased from the English manufacturer. This example from December 2015, which has shown only 2,500 km, shows all the expected qualities in terms of comfort, presentation and passing capabilities.
However, Denis saw that things had gone wrong in January, when his engine suddenly started working in a degraded mode. Without thinking, he slows down to park on the side of the road. Just then a thick white smoke flows from the exhaust pipe.
Land Rover cannot consider this engine failure to be normal at this mileage.
This is the end of Discovery’s voyage. Worse, eight days later the diagnosis came and he was told that it was necessary change the engine and its peripherals. The amount of work, including the automatic contribution of 18%, still amounts to an astronomical amount 15,881 euros !
Unbelievable for Denis, who immediately contacted the customer relations department with a request for honest support. In vain: he does not receive any additional gesture from the brand. However, Denis does not decide to stop there. Then he turns to us to get our opinion.
Our defense strategy
Land Rover should reconsider their position knowing that this Discovery has been serviced to recommended specifications.
The service life of the engine block must reach 300,000 km without serious problems. So, given the age and especially the mileage of this Discovery, Land Rover still has to assume 45% of the bill for its replacement!
