Nissan: big changes for Qashqai, Juke and Leaf! Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Nissan is to invest heavily in its Sunderland plant. Remember one number: 3, for £3 billion of investment, 3 gigafactories for battery production and assembly 3 100% electric models ! Since the closure of the Barcelona factory in 2021, Sunderland has been Nissan’s last manufacturing stronghold in Europe. As for the Micra, which is assembled in France (in Flints and soon in Maubeges), as well as the Townstar, Interstar and Primastar SUVs, they are assembled at partner Renault, not at Nissan’s production center. Sunderland is also its oldest: Production of the first European Nissan began there in 1986, Bluebird sedan at the time.

Sunderland, Nissan’s historic European stronghold

The manufacturer was also the first Japanese to settle in Europe, before Honda (Swindon) and Toyota (Burnaston), which also made the United Kingdom their gateway to the Old Continent (imported Japanese cars were heavily taxed at the time). After many years of drafting Pay attention, Primera, Almera and even some models Infiniti (Q30 and QX30), now the brand produces the Leaf electric sedan, the Juke urban crossover and the Qashqai family crossover.. Guess which models will become 100% electric? Yes, our 3 heroes! 3 future models will be inspired 3 all-electric concepts2 of which were recently unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show.

Three new electrical products for Europe

Exist Hyper Urban Concept, a crossover with refined and modern aesthetics, as well as the Hyper Punk Concept, a more compact crossover. The third model of the future will have similarities with the Chill-Out concept presented in 2021. These new models are announced 100% electric versions of flagship models Nissan Qashqai and Jukeas well as third generation Leaf, already a fully electric car. Nissan clarifies that “more information on the three models, including names, specifications and launch dates, will be announced at a later date,” meaning that Perhaps the names of these models can be changed.

Nissan doesn’t really have a name dedicated to electric cars, unlike, for example, Hyundai (IONIQ), Toyota (bZ), Volkswagen (ID.). Leaflet and Aria do not follow a specific plot; we hope these three future models retain their intuitive names. More and more brands, following Chinese trends, are doing this incomprehensible confusion of numbers and letters mark their electric cars (Honda and Mercedes recognize each other).
