Four members of a family were fatally stabbed Saturday night in New York by a relative who then stabbed two police officers at the scene before being fatally wounded, authorities said Sunday, AFP reported.
Investigators have not yet found out the suspect’s motives, at this stage they seem to be leaning towards family feud.
The tragedy occurred in the Far Rockaway area, far from the center of the metropolis, where police were called early Sunday morning by one of the victims, “a young woman who said her cousin was killing members of her family,” Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said. .
Two children died
Approaching the house, two policemen found the man and questioned him. The 38-year-old man then attacked and stabbed them before one of the officers shot and fatally wounded him.
At the scene, when the fire broke out in the house, the police first found a seriously injured 11-year-old child in front of the house, who later died in the hospital.
Inside, in two bedrooms, three more people were found dead: “a 12-year-old child, a 44-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney.
Another victim, 61 years old, was hospitalized with serious injuries. The injured police officers were also hospitalized, but their lives are not in danger.
The suspect, a Bronx resident, was known to police in a previous domestic violence case.
