The European Union has supplied Ukraine with about 300,000 shells out of a million promised so far, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who is participating in a NATO meeting in Brussels, said on Wednesday, Reuters reports.
Kuleba called for greater cooperation between Ukraine’s defense industry and NATO to provide Kyiv with the supplies it needs to defeat Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
“We need to create a common Euro-Atlantic space of defense industries,” Kuleba said, adding that this would ensure the security of both Ukraine and NATO member states.
In recent months, Kyiv has launched a concerted campaign to get major global arms manufacturers to open operations in Ukraine in an effort to end its dependence on weapons and ammunition supplied by its allies.
Kuleba rejected the journalist’s claim that the war was now at a stalemate after Ukraine’s summer counteroffensive operation failed to retake significant territory held by the Russians.
“There is no stalemate,” Kuleba said.
Kuleba also said he had a “productive” meeting with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar on Tuesday.
Slovakia’s newly elected president, Robert Fico, promised to end military aid to Ukraine, although he later said he would not block arms purchases from private companies.
“He emphasized again that the Ukrainian heavy equipment maintenance center will continue its work in Slovakia. Contracts between Ukrainian and Slovak arms manufacturing companies will be extended,” said Kuleba.
