The University of Cluj is having a great season with Ioan Ovidiu Sabau and allows itself to dream of the playoffs.

The Transylvanian team is ahead of the champion Farul Konstanz in the standings and is currently only two points away from first place in the playoffs held by Petrolul Ploiesti.

Moreover, the Red Caps confirmed their very good form by managing to prove themselves in Julesti, a stadium where Rapidul have only lost once this season to Petrolul.

Cluj still didn’t win, even coming back from 2-0 down to Rapid thanks to goals from Daniel Popa, Čipča and Janis Stojka.

In a quick interview, Ioan Ovidiu Sabau tried to explain why he surprised Rapidul and how he had to find a solution for a difficult result for the Transylvanian team.

Lots of goals, good match, we prepared the game to start well, not let them attack. We put pressure on the central defenders. We knew that they would start very strongly, that they would try to score from the start. That goal was there, I had to adapt, make that change, change the system, we managed to score in the first half, which gave us morale, confidence.

In the second half, we had a better morale, we believed in ourselves, entered well, created chances to equalize. As a result, they scored the third goal. They are players with quality, individuality, and they are not intimidated by such games. When you are the manager, you have a lot going through your head, what to say to the players to motivate them, not to give up in the fight, especially against a team that looks good.

It wasn’t about shaking them at halftime, I told them we could win this game. We intervened to correct certain mistakes, there are times when you need to look for a solution. This time everything turned out as it should have been. Speaking of course, we had to be much more compact, they played very fast, Jakob managed to play between the lines, we were often left with two central defenders free.

We managed to fix certain things, we managed not to give away spaces, to create problems when we get the ball back. As usual, I was very well received here. I love them, it was very good for me. I feel sorry for them, but I am happy for myself and my players. – said the technician of the University of Cluj, reports Digi Sport.
