There are all kinds of road signs in the traffic rules, which obviously serve to give drivers instructions on how to behave on the road. We are thinking about speed or priority signs, as well as those that indicate the entrance to a settlement. The latter are especially useful for knowing which city you are in, of course, but not only that. Indeed, they also have other uses. They actually indicate that we are entering an urban area with all the rules that this entails, e.g speed is limited to 50 km/h.

But in recent days you could see upside down signs at the entrance to the city. No, this is not a joke of little pranksters to make motorists laugh or annoy. And it is not for nothing that we find these panels almost everywhere in France, from Brittany to Aveyron passing through Loser and Gar. But then what is it about? Actually, this gesture is an initiative of farmers who have been protesting against the rules imposed on them by the government for several days. Then this operation is called “We walk on our heads” and consists in flipping signs to attract the attention of the state.

Peaceful action

Now all of France is worried about this action, which should be peaceful. It’s not really about damaging the panels that are just unscrewed and then turned. At the time, farmers protested, in particular, against disagreements over the taxation of agricultural diesel fuel, which could harm them. A struggle reminiscent of motorists’ struggle against off-road fuel at petrol stations across France…
