In the coming days, the ceremonial opening of the first section of the Capital Ring Road A0, which will be opened for traffic, will take place. Romanian developer UMB will practically complete work on Lot 2 A0 Nord well ahead of schedule. However, traffic will be open only for almost 10 km of the 19 km section, between the DN1 and the A3.
Romanian construction company UMB will open approximately 9.5 km of the 19 km A0 North Lot 2, specifically the section between DN1 and A3, to traffic in the coming days. The rest of the kilometers on this section pass on both sides of the road junctions and do not have traffic reliefs so that they can be used.
The Secretary of State for Transport, Irinel Ionel Skriostianu, says that the final preparations are now underway for the opening of the first lot of the Bucharest A0 highway.
- “I am at the construction site of lot 2 north of the A0 Bucharest motorway, a section for which the National Road Infrastructure Management Company CNAIR has started the pre-acceptance phase together with all responsible factors. As I said, static and dynamic tests of the structures of the passages were completed last week, and their results allow traffic to be launched in safe conditions,” Skriostianu said.
- “We will put the section between DN1 and A3 into traffic in a few days, and unloading in DN2 will be next year,” says the state secretary.

UMB actually started work on the site in the summer of 2022 and had a completion date of summer 2024, so a partial opening now and the completion of all work in the coming months would effectively mean ending the contract early, something that has almost become a “tradition” for businessman Dorinel Umbrerescu’s companies.
Below is a video from Asociația Construim Romania with Lot 2 A0 Nord, from DN1 to A3 and all the way to Afumaca. The section that will be open to traffic for several days will be from DN1 to A3. (No – the bridge over DN1 and half of this junction will not be used from now on)
A large part of A0 Lot 2 will not be usable: there is no traffic relief, which the authorities are in no hurry to install
The largest part of the A0 North section that will not be used – almost 7 kilometers – is from the northern road from the A3 to the DN2 in Afumak. The interchange with DN2 is included in a related contract signed just this year with a Chinese company.
There was much discussion about a possible temporary relief that would be arranged by road workers, but it never happened. Neither where A0 crosses DJ100 Ștefăneşti – Afumați, nor in the direction of DN2.
State Secretary for Transport Irinel Ionel Skriostianu says that a temporary release to DN2 will be organized next year.

Autostrada A0 Nord – Only UMB sections currently in progress / Lot 1 just awarded contract after four years of bidding
Enabled Party 1 Dragomirești (in direction A1) to Corbeanca (in direction DN1) (length: 17.5 km, value: 815 million lei) CNAIR managed to secure a design-build contract only recently with an Italian-led joint venture with Impresa Pizzarotti, after more than four years of bidding, a negative record in all respects.
Romanians from UMB work in the north of Bucharest on the A0 Lot 2 (Length: 19 km, DN1-A3-Afumati, cost: 832 million lei) and set new speed records.
Enabled Lot 3 DN2-DN3 (Length: 8.6 km, cost: 398 million lei)At the beginning of the year, CNAIR signed a design and implementation contract with the Chinese from CCECC.
UMB has also recently begun work on Lot 4 A0 Nord (Length: 4.47 km, cost: 313 million lei), the one that stretches from DN3 (Chernik) to the A2, crossing the Colentina River on a very long viaduct. This lot has a lead time of 18 months, so completion could be in late 2024 or early 2025, but as there is no release at the end of DN3, the opening of traffic is entirely dependent on the neighboring lot. 3.
