Pope Francis went to a hospital in Rome on Saturday for a CT scan that the Vatican said ruled out lung complications after the flu forced the spiritual leader to cancel activities, Reuters reported.

A Vatican statement said the 86-year-old pontiff had already returned to his Vatican residence after undergoing a CT scan at the Gemelli Isola hospital in central Rome on Saturday afternoon.

Part of one of Pope’s lungs was removed when he was a young man in his native Argentina.

His next public appearance is scheduled for Sunday, when he is expected to address the crowd in his weekly Angelus message in St. Peter’s Square.

The Pope is scheduled to attend the COP28 climate conference in Dubai from December 1 to 3, where he is expected to hold nearly a full day of bilateral meetings with world leaders attending the event.

Earlier this month, Francis pulled out of a prepared speech for a meeting with European rabbis due to a cold, but appeared in good health during a meeting with children just hours later.

In June, he was operated on for an abdominal hernia, he spent nine days in the hospital. He seems to have fully recovered from that operation.

On Saturday, he usually holds regular meetings with Vatican officials, including weekly meetings with the head of the Vatican department that oversees the appointment of bishops, as well as private audiences.

His program for Saturday also included a meeting with the president of Guinea-Bissau.
