Stellantis: a new step forward in the race for electricity Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

If previously the Stellantis group was a little behind in terms of electricity, the latter is now in the process of catching up. Indeed, the latter now sells several zero-emission models, including the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008, as well as the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600e and Opel Corsa-e. Suffice it to say, the Franco-Italian group’s catalog is full of things to do right now, and it obviously shouldn’t stop anytime soon. Indeed, other electric vehicles are also preparing for the future, but not only this.

More economical batteries

Because the group, created in 2021 as a result of the merger of PSA and FCA, also wants to reduce the production costs of its electric cars in the future. The goal? Increase your margin, of course, but also show lower prices to customers. But how to do it? For this, the firm has just signed a new partnership with the Chinese company CATL, specializing in the production of batteries for electric vehicles. An “optional” agreement on the supply of Chinese-made batteries was concluded between the two companies.

What kind of chemistry?

Stellantis currently uses NMC (nickel-manganese-phosphate) batteries in their cars. However, the latter are more expensive than LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry, but have a higher density. In addition, the group explains in its press release that it wants to sell ” high-quality, durable and affordable electric crossovers and SUVs of the B and C segments“. This new deal should significantly help him achieve his goal in the coming years.
