
On Thursday, the government wants to approve financial assistance for housing and food for families and people with or without Romanian citizenship evacuated from the Gaza Strip for a period of 4 months, until March 31, 2024. It is estimated that a maximum of 300 people from the Gaza Strip will receive aid, which will exceed 1.1 million lei.
The draft government decree proposes providing emergency aid as temporary material support to families and individuals with or without Romanian citizenship evacuated from the Gaza Strip to cover the costs of accommodation and food.
Emergency assistance is provided:
- 2,000 lei per month for a family of 1 to 5 people, including accommodation;
- 3,000 lei per month for a family of more than 5 people, for accommodation;
- 600 lei each, monthly for a single person, respectively for each person in the family for food insurance.
How will this financial assistance be provided?
- Emergency assistance is provided at the request of a single person, respectively an adult family member, who is accompanied by a copy of identity documents or documents on the basis of which they crossed the border of Romania;
- The request is submitted either in writing to the District Payments and Social Inspection Agency, respectively, of the Municipality of Bucharest, within whose territorial radius the person or family concerned resides or is located, or in electronic format on the platform available under ANPIS;
- In order to provide emergency assistance, it is not necessary to fill out an application in the legally prescribed format, as well as conduct social surveys or field inspections;
- Attestation of single persons and family members evacuated from the Gaza Strip will be carried out on the basis of the nominal situation submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Department of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity and the National Agency. on issues of remuneration and social inspection;
- Emergency aid is paid by the territorial body where the application is submitted to the bank account specified by the family representative, after verification of the applications by name, sent by the department for emergency situations, within 10 working days from the moment of receipt of the application. ;
- Emergency assistance will be paid by the same territorial authority, regardless of whether the recipient of assistance has changed the district or settlement in which he originally decided to live;
- Depending on the family situation, namely the departure of some family members or the arrival of other family members, emergency care may increase or decrease depending on the circumstances.
Emergency assistance is assigned for no more than 4 months, starting from December 2023, but no later than March 31, 2024, respectively, from the date of submission of the application.
It is estimated that a maximum of 300 refugees from Gaza will benefit from this emergency assistance, the estimated cost of support will be approximately 294,000 lei in 2023 for the 237 currently in Romania and 880. thousand lei in 2024.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announced on Wednesday that 12 people, Romanian citizens and their family members, left the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing on Wednesday and are in Egyptian territory on their way to Cairo.
They were later received by representatives of the Romanian Embassy in Egypt, and the mobile team of the MAE Crisis Unit escorted them to Cairo, from where they will be sent to Romania.
To date, 249 Romanian citizens and their family members have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip.
