Former mayor Yassiv Gheorghe Nichita, who was serving a sentence in the Vaslui penitentiary for inciting abuse of office, was released on parole and left the detention center on Wednesday, saying he was no longer interested in politics but would be present in public spacious

“I no longer want to be involved in politics and I am not interested in politics, instead I am interested in being in the public space, and I believe that I have enough experience accumulated in this life, both in the field of administration and in the political field and not only. I have quite a lot of life experience, because it was not easy for me, because of everything that I went through in life, especially the recent suffering. People usually say, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” the former mayor of Yesian said after leaving Vaslui Penitentiary, Agerpres reports.

Nikita said that she has experienced difficult times and cannot wait to see her grandchildren, noting that she will devote herself to her family in the next period.

“It was not easy. The pain is very strong for me and for my loved ones, my family, but everything has a meaning and a purpose, and I tried to find a purpose in every suffering. God has a purpose for everything. I currently have a balance and am trying to maintain it. I miss my family a lot, especially my grandchildren, because they are waiting for me, I know they will come,” said the former mayor of Yeshe.

Gheorghe Nicita apologized to those who were close to him and those who were affected by what happened to him.

Sentenced to five years, released after one year and three months

The former mayor of Iasi was finally sentenced last August by the Iasi Court of Appeal to five years in prison with the possibility of execution for inciting abuse of office in a case in which he was accused of using the resources and personnel of the Iasi local police to spy on his mistress.

Gheorghe Nicita returned to the penitentiary after being paroled in October 2021 after serving part of his sentence at Botosani Penitentiary in another corruption case in which he was accused of accepting a 10% bribe from the cost of a European project.
