The US has cut NATO-standard ammunition supplies to Ukraine by 30% since the start of Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza last month, the report said. ABC Newsreferring to the Ukrainian official, writes Ukrainian Pravda.
“The 155 mm artillery shells are perhaps the most important ammunition for Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces, and some US stocks that were intended for Ukrainian forces have been diverted to Israel,” ABC News notes, pointing out that recently the Week US officials have repeatedly stated that the supply of weapons to Israel will not affect the war in Ukraine.
“They (US officials) told us that it would not affect (US) obligations, but it did,” said a Ukrainian official.
The official, who spoke to ABC News on condition of anonymity, said the supply of these vital artillery shells is “about 60 to 70 percent of Ukraine’s total supply.”
However, a senior US defense official told ABC News that the ammunition cuts had “absolutely nothing to do with what’s going on in Gaza”.
According to him, aid packages “start to be put together weeks in advance, so there is no connection between what is happening in Gaza and what is happening in Ukraine.”
At the same time, during a visit to Ukraine, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced a new $100 million security assistance package for Ukraine, which includes an unspecified number of 155 mm artillery shells that meet NATO standards.
On November 20, the US Department of Defense announced the content of a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth 100 million dollars. The new kit will include the HIMARS salvo missile system and additional ammunition for it, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, 155 and 105 mm artillery shells, TOW anti-tank missiles, as well as Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems.
Ukrainians say that the war in Ukraine has taken second place in the interests of the people
By the way, the other day, the Associated Press wrote a headline that “while the world’s attention is focused on Gaza, Ukrainians are worried that the wear and tear of war will hurt their cause.”
Tymofiy Postoik and his friends organized an online fundraiser for Ukraine, and donations poured in from all over the world, helping to purchase critical equipment for the Ukrainian armed forces.
As the war with Russia dragged on and war weariness set in, donations slowed, but the money kept coming. Then, on October 7, the war between Israel and Hamas broke out.
With the start of another major conflict, social media, including X, formerly known as Twitter, has been flooded with news from the Middle East. “Our fundraising posts and updates just get lost between these tweets,” Postoik said.
Postyuk, the development manager of the Path to Ukraine Foundation, says the team expected a decrease in donations, but not by that much.
“The liberation war of Ukraine is simply not on the agenda, at least now,” he said.
