Far-right Dutch lawmaker Thierry Bode, who is running in Wednesday’s general election, was attacked on Monday after being beaten on a university campus in Belgium last month, his Forum for Democracy (FvD) party said. , AFP reports.

Thierry Bode was holding a campaign rally in a bar in Groningen (North) when the incident happened.

According to images posted on social network X, the deputy was welcoming patrons to a bar when suddenly a man began hitting him hard on the head with an object that looked like a green beer bottle. The video shows that he was hit three times with a bottle.

Bode was immediately taken out of the bar, and people in the bar stopped the attacker, who was later detained by the police.

He was taken to hospital, FvD on X reported, without specifying whether he was injured.

“It seems that everything is fine,” the party added.

Bode, a controversial parliamentarian, has promoted various conspiracy theories and is known for his outspoken support for Moscow.

In October, he was attacked by a man with an umbrella on the Ghent University campus. Bode left there in a state of shock.

The two attacks sparked outrage among the political class and calls for increased security for politicians.

On Wednesday, the Dutch go to the parliamentary elections.
