Daniil Medvedev has hit back at suggestions he allowed himself to be beaten by Alcaraz to avoid Novak Djokovic in the semis

Daniil Medvedev will face Yannick Sinner in the semi-finals at the Tournament of Champions and the Russian was accused of a lack of fight after being beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in the final group match.

Alcaraz’s win changed the group and Daniil Medvedev avoided Novak Djokovic at the semi-final stage.

Immediately after the match, the Russian was accused of deliberately losing the dispute with the former world leader, but at the press conference he had an answer to the contenders.

“After the game two days ago, I said to myself, ‘Oh, that’s good, I’m sure I’ll finish first in the group.’ But it wasn’t even like that. I did everything I could in today’s match. I don’t know how it sounded on TV, but deep down I felt I had a good match, actually much better than against Sasha (Zverev) from my level. Although in a certain sense we lost quite easily.” Daniil Medvedev said.
