It is not yet today that fans of precision mechanics will reconcile with an electric car. The Xiaomi electric car, known until now under the code name MS11, is now presented under the name SU7. It is a battery sedan with a length and width of 4.99 meters and 1.96 meters respectively, a height of 1.45 meters and a wheelbase of 3.00 meters. For comparison, it is slightly larger than the new Volkswagen ID.7.

Three versions and two engines for Xiaomi SU7

The car will be available in three versions, SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max, the structure of the model range is strangely reminiscent of that of Volkswagen.

The car will be available in two versions: engine with a capacity of 299 hp. and four-wheel drive for 673 hp. with the help of two electric motors. At the moment, the smallest version will be equipped with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD, while the most powerful variant will be equipped with a Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery from CATL.

The sedan is available with LiDAR mounted behind the windshield. There’s also a camera on the center pillar, so the car is likely to feature face unlock. As for the weight, it varies depending on the versions and configuration between 1980 and 2205 kg.

Soon in Europe?

The Xiaomi SU7 (pronounced “lollipop”?) will not be manufactured by the phone giant, but by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding (BAIC). Production will begin in December next year for marketing, which will take place from February 2024 in China. There is currently no European launch date planned.

We’ll have to wait a few more weeks before we know all of its specs, including battery life in particular. It is hard to imagine that this sedan is offered with a range of less than 600 km on a single charge.
