According to a statement released by her office on Wednesday, Letitia James accused New York State-based PepsiCo of “causing harm to the public and failing to warn consumers about the health and environmental risks posed by the use of single-use plastic packaging.” “.

The complaint also alleges that PepsiCo “misled the public about the effectiveness of plastic recycling and its efforts to combat plastic pollution,” including claiming that PepsiCo’s use of non-recycled plastic had increased over the past four years, when the company claimed otherwise.

A spokeswoman for PepsiCo said the company was “serious about reducing plastic and recycling it effectively” and that it had “been transparent about (its drive to) reduce plastic use and accelerate innovation around new packaging.”

This “complex issue” requires the involvement of many stakeholders, including businesses, municipalities, consumers and more, the group said, pleading for “cooperation” and saying it has worked “effectively” in New York on public needs.
