FCSB boss Gigi Bekali is to divest himself of a file accusing him of vote rigging after the facts were exhausted, a Bufti court ruled on Wednesday. It took the prosecution four years to bring this case to trial. According to the Criminal Code, the statute of limitations for the crime Gigi Bekali was charged with is five years, which expired in October 2023.

“According to the provisions of Art. 396 paragraphs 1 and 6 Cpp, rep. to art 16 para. 1 liter f) Civil Code, Art. 154 para. 1 liter d) Criminal Code and Art. 5 of the Criminal Code with reference to Art. 155 para. 1 of the Criminal Code, clarified by Decisions no. 297/2018 and No. 358/2022 of the Constitutional Court of Romania and no. 67/2022 ICCJ – The panel for solving the issue of law in criminal cases terminates the criminal proceedings against the defendant Bekali George, referred to the court for vote falsification, in a state of relapse, as a result of the intervention of the prescription of criminal responsibility (act of 06.10.2018)”, – decided in Bufta court on Wednesday, reports Agerpres.

Gigi Bekali’s case languished in the prosecutor’s office for 4 years

It took Bufti District Court prosecutors four years to complete their investigation into the case.

According to the Criminal Code, the statute of limitations for the crime committed by Gigi Bekali is five years, and expired in October 2023.

In October 2018, he came to vote in the “Referendum on the Family”, where Romanians were invited to express themselves whether they agree with the change in the definition of family in the Constitution, respectively, whether the wording “marriage by voluntary consent between spouses” should be replaced by ” marriage between a man and a woman by voluntary consent”.
