Known for its SUVs, wagons and other premium sedans, Volvo’s lineup is now diversifying with the introduction of Volvo EM90first 100% electric minivan from a Swedish brand that wants to appeal to both families and professionals. In recent years, the minivan segment has regained popularity, especially in Asia: that’s why the EM90 has been introduced in China, and will be sold there first.

Volvo EM90: a real living room on wheels

The Volvo EM90 is both substantial and refined in style, with 19- or 20-inch aerodynamic wheels, a front end with the brand’s famous light signature in the shape of Thor’s hammer, and an illuminated Volvo logo. The model is offered with a palette of four body colors, with warm tones.

But the most interesting thing is inside: the EM90 has a generous and refined interior capable of accommodating up to 6 people. There are lounge seats with meticulous comfort, a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system, and thorough soundproofing combined with dual-chamber air suspension to ensure quiet and comfortable driving.

In terms of technology, we find an embedded system equipped with the Snapdragon Cockpit platform from Qualcomm Technologies, as well as 5G connectivity, which is materialized with 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system located in the center of the dashboard, complemented by a digital instrument panel located in front of the driver. An optional 15.6-inch screen built into the roof can be folded down to allow rear-seat passengers to be entertained or work, while a built-in camera enables video conferencing.

Range up to 738 kilometers

Under the hood we find a 100% electric motor with a capacity of 272 horsepowerwhich promises acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds and is associated with a battery with a capacity of 116 kWh. According to Volvo, the EM90 offers a range of up to 738 kilometersaccording to China’s CLTC cycle, and the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

The EM90 is also equipped two-way chargingwhich allows you to use the car battery as a power bank on the road, to power and charge electrical devices, as well as other electric vehicles!

There will be a 100% electric Volvo EM90 first sold in China : the Swedish manufacturer has also opened the pre-order book for the Chinese market. Then the model should be exported to other world markets during 2024.
