An American people’s jury decided on Thursday that Robert De Niro’s production company was guilty of sexual discrimination against a former employee and awarded her the right to compensation in the amount of 1.3 million dollars, reports AFP.

Former co-worker Graham Chase Robinson accused the “Taxi Driver” star of forcing her to do “stereotypically feminine” tasks even after she was promoted to the management of Canal Productions, washing sheets, vacuuming his apartment or hosting parties, according to Agerpres.

She also accused him of unwanted physical contact and sexually suggestive comments.

Jurors also found that De Niro’s company sought to retaliate against the employee. She claimed that the actor refused to write her letters of recommendation or pay her severance pay.

A jury dismissed Canal Productions’ original complaint against Chase Robinson. The company accused her of charging hundreds of thousands of dollars for personal expenses on the company’s credit card, using millions of De Niro’s miles for air travel and watching “Netflix shows” during work hours.

De Niro called the accusations of his former assistant “nonsense”

“We are pleased that the jury (…) returned a verdict in favor of Ms. Chase Robinson,” her attorney, David Sanford, was quoted as saying in the statement.

“Not only did Ms. Robinson win her lawsuit against Canal, but the jury ruled entirely in Ms. Robinson’s favor, stating that Robert De Niro’s complaints against her were without merit,” the attorney said.

De Niro, who was not present at the sentencing, was not found individually responsible.

At the start of the two-week trial, the actor said the accusations by his former assistant were “nonsense”.
