October 2023 ranks 1st in the list of the warmest October months in Romania for the period 1961 – 2023, along with October 1966. The average monthly temperature in the country was 13.3 C, which is 3.4 C above the norm. ANM data shows there were also weather stations where the average monthly temperature was 5 degrees C above the normal for the past 30 years.

The last hot day (maximum temperature ≥ 35 °C) in the history of meteorological measurements last month was recorded on October 21, 2023 at the weather stations Turnu Măgurele (35.1 °C) and Bechet (35.0 °C). Thus, the previous record was surpassed, namely on October 15, 1993, when 38.4 °C was recorded in Oltenica, and 36.2 °C in Zimniche.

The average temperature at more than 100 weather stations in the country was 13.3°C, the same as in 1966, and for 2020, when the average temperature was 12°C. The coldest October was in 1997 with an average temperature of only +6.9°C.

In October 2023, the maximum absolute monthly temperature was exceeded at 13 weather stations. It was 35 degrees in Beche, breaking the record set in 1991. In Constanta, it was +31.8 degrees, breaking the record of 1928, according to ANM data.

In Tekuchi it was +34.1 C, breaking the record of the tenth month of 1952.

• In Gura Portiței, the maximum temperature record for October was exceeded by 3.6 C (30.2 C vs. 26.6 C).
