New American Tesla Gigafactorylocated in Austin, USA. Texasis the most advanced factory and the largest Tesla factory in the world, according to the statements of its boss Elon Musk during its inauguration last April.
This industrial site is also expected to set all records, such as the highest production capacity in America, including the production of the Cybertruck, as well as the largest volume of battery production. But in the long run, the Tesla Giga site in Texas should also set another unexpected record: the world’s largest rooftop solar system.
Tesla Gigafactory in Texas: Impressive solar roof system
There was no official information on this matter, but even before the official opening of the factory, the first photovoltaic modules could be seen on the roof of the new Tesla Gigafactory in early 2022. In September, the installation expanded, and the panels were placed so that “TESLA” logo. clearly visible on the roof of the manufacturer’s factory in Texas, as we can see in satellite images.
The facility now appears complete, with the Tesla logo on the long Texas Gigafactory building stretching from north to south. But there is still a lot of free space on the roof of the industrial site: it is clear that it will not be used for a long time. Indeed, after the installation of the first stage of the photovoltaic system with a capacity ofabout 10 megawattsinstallation should be completed to achieve a with a total capacity of 30 megawatts on the roof of the factory.
A world record ahead?
At the moment, the Tesla solar system has “only” 10 MW and is one of the largest installations of its type in the world. Among the record holders we find a warehouse in Los Angeles, which has a capacity of 16.4 MW, followed by two photovoltaic systems installed on rooftops in India, and finally a fourth solar rooftop system with a capacity of 10.1 megawatts installed in buildings of the Gloucester Marine Terminal, New Jersey, USA. The fifth largest solar array in the world is located in Whirlpool, California and has a capacity of 10 MW, just like Tesla’s installation in Texas… For now.
During a recent event, Tesla presented computer-generated images in which we can see the roof of its Gigafactory in Texas completely covered in solar panels, except where its logo materializes. Ultimately, Tesla’s Texas plant will occupy an area of approx 930,000 m²and will welcome 70,000 photovoltaic modules. However, marking the Tesla logo on the roof of a building, visible from the sky and even space, should be preserved, even if it means shedding a few extra watts…
