Interior Minister Catalin Predoiu says that Romania is one of the safest countries in the European Union, he claims that Romanian businessmen “don’t pay for three security guards 24 hours a day to be protected like other European countries do”.
“Recently, I accidentally talked with many Romanian citizens who often travel abroad, or citizens who live in the European diaspora, or citizens who live in the country but travel for work, entrepreneurs, businessmen, corporatists. I can compare directly and from discussions with their counterparts living abroad regarding the level of safety on the streets and generally the level of safety. And I’m just letting you all know the findings. Romania is one of the safest countries in the European Union at the moment, and it is also thanks to the Romanian police, the border police and the gendarmerie, as well as the Emergency Inspectorate, when something unfortunate happens,” said Katelin Predoiu on Wednesday, at a press conference, reports News.ro.
He stated that he is “the first to put a finger to the wound” in the institution he leads, and explained that he does not do so in bad faith, but added that we must “recognize that we have public safety at the level of the best, than in Europe”.
“Please believe that I was the first to touch the wound, because that is my role. And I hope to be understood when I do this, I do not do it out of bad faith. Now I am directly addressing the apparatus, the ministry, the structures, the arms and the trade unions. I don’t do it maliciously, I don’t do it for image, I do it constructively. I’m the first to put my finger on a wound when I see it. And I already have witnesses who can confirm this. They do it in offices and not only in front of the cameras. But at the same time, I think it is fair and just to recognize the fact that we have a product called public security at a more than satisfactory level compared to what is happening in Europe,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs. .
He claimed that Romanian businessmen do not have bodyguards, as is the case in Europe.
“Romanian entrepreneurs do not pay security guards in three shifts around the clock to protect them, as other European countries do. And this is what the head of the Chamber of Commerce told me. Direct. I do not hide from this. Recently I was invited to an event, I was unable to attend because I had professional commitments in the ministry, but during the discussion the gentleman said to me, “I’m sorry you didn’t come because I would like to say this publicly. We travel, go out, have contacts all over the world, including Europe. We feel safe here in Romania. We have colleagues from professions, professions, professional and commercial activities who come to meetings with two or three people on the left, on the right, whom they pay,” Katelin Predoyu also confirmed.
