Ukrainian forces have moved a small number of armored vehicles across the Dnipro River to the left bank of the Russian-occupied (southern) Kherson region and are continuing their offensive on that bank with a battalion-sized light infantry group, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which analyzes information provided by Russian military bloggers. , reports EFE and DPA, citing Agerpres.

According to images released by Russian military bloggers, on October 6, a Ukrainian amphibious assault vehicle overthrew an armored personnel carrier on the left bank near the village of Krynky, where Ukrainian troops were already stationed, 30 kilometers northeast of Kherson. and 2 kilometers from the Dnipro River.

Other Russian military observers reported that on October 7, the Ukrainian BMP single-handedly crossed the Dnipro near Krynyk.

According to an analysis by the American ISW on Wednesday, it is not yet known whether Ukraine managed to transport one or two armored vehicles or more.

It is also unclear whether Russian artillery succeeded in destroying them when they entered the left bank, controlled by Russia after it withdrew from the city of Kherson – the administrative center of the region of the same name – following a successful Ukrainian counteroffensive in the autumn. 2022 year.

Also, Russian military bloggers in their Telegram channels, where they comment on the course of the war every day, stated that more than 300 Ukrainian soldiers (approximately the equivalent of a battalion) are operating on the left bank in the Krynyk area.

One of them stated that several hundred Ukrainian soldiers are operating throughout the left bank of the Kherson region.

The Ukrainian authorities have not yet confirmed this information.

  • The Ukrainian military inadvertently confirmed the attack of the marines on the Russian bank of the Dnipro
  • Russia claims to have foiled several attempts by Ukrainians to cross the Dnipro in the Kherson region

ISW assesses that Ukrainian forces initially attacked at company level across the Dnipro River on 17 and 18 October.

Since then, a series of battles took place near Krynkami, Poima (12 kilometers east of the city of Kherson and 4 kilometers from the river), Poshchanivka, and in Pidstupen.

In its analysis, ISW notes that “the transfer of battalion-sized Ukrainian forces to the left bank indicates that intensive Russian efforts along the Dnipro River did not prevent Kyiv from transferring additional personnel and material assets to positions” on that bank.

For more than 20 months, Ukraine defended itself against a full-scale Russian invasion. Since the withdrawal of Moscow troops from the northern part of the Kherson region almost a year ago, the front line in the south of Ukraine runs along the Dnieper River, which is also a natural barrier. During the retreat, Russian troops blew up the bridges across the river.
