On Monday, the French climber Alain Robert, known as the “French Spider-Man”, climbed the Coupole Total tower, the headquarters of TotalEnergies in the La Défense district (west of Paris), to deliver a “message of peace” on the 31st day of the war between Israel and Hamas, reports AFP.

Dressed in a fluorescent yellow jacket, red trousers and climbing shoes, Alain Robert scaled the 179m Total tower in front of passersby in the business district. He was then arrested, AFP in Hauts-de-Seine prefecture told AFP.

“He was placed in pretrial detention for endangering the lives of others, a charge that was later dropped by the prosecutor,” the prefecture said mid-day, adding that the climber had been released.

By making this ascent, Alain Robert explained that he wanted to send a “message of peace” for “the great world leaders to sit down, come together and do something to resolve this conflict with Palestine and Israel once and for all.” .

“When I went up, I thought about the people in Palestine and even in Israel who are being bombed,” Alain Robert said after descending from the majestic skyscraper. He stated that a “genocide” is taking place in the Gaza Strip.

Alain Robert, 61, regularly delivers political messages by climbing buildings. His track record includes one hundred climbs, including the Burj Khalifa (828 m) in Dubai and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and he is listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
