“This evening, the National Bureau of the EDR took note of the removal of Olena Lasconi from the list of candidates for the European Parliament elections. Elena Lasconi will continue to work at Campalungeni and will have the support of USR to continue working in the administration,” USR said.

The party says it continues to support her as mayor

USR reveals that “Lasconi entered politics to build streets, schools, hospitals, communities and will continue to do so in Kampulung supported by USR”.

“Our colleague came out of the desire not to influence the campaign for the elections to the European Parliament, in order to prevent the appearance of a series of discussions in the public space that would divert attention from the problems facing Romania. USR confirms its support for liberal principles and values, for which it fights both in Romania and in Europe,” the formation’s press release also states.

USR President Katalin Drula announces that he had a discussion with Elena Lasconi and asked her to withdraw from the campaign for the European Parliament after the scandal caused by her statements about voting in the referendum for the family, and that he has decided to convene the National Bureau of the USR this evening.

Olena Lasconi, appointed head of the USR list in the European Parliament elections, said in an interview with Prima TV that she voted “YES” in the referendum on the traditional family in 2018. “I am a Christian, I am Orthodox and I believe that a family consists of a woman and a man,” said Lasconi.

For these statements, she was criticized both by former colleagues from the USR, now in REPER, and by her party colleague Clotilde Armand.

The harshest reaction, however, came from his daughter, who tearfully announced in a post on Instagram that she was “in shock and absolutely disgusted,” saying: “This cruel discrimination has no place in my family and for that reason I am no longer does not support the mother.”
