The armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, fired a new longer-range rocket at southern Israel on Saturday.
The Hamas Al-Qassam Brigades announced that they had launched an Ayyash 250 rocket over the port city of Eilat, in the southernmost point of Israel, DPA and Agerpres reported.
It is a rocket produced by Hamas, which, according to the Palestinian Islamist organization, has a range of 250 kilometers.
The Israeli army announced that an attack from the Gaza Strip had been identified following a missile alert in the Arava region, north of Eilat.
The missile was intercepted by Israel’s Arrow anti-missile defense system. According to the first information, there are no victims, the doctors reported.
The port city of Eilat on the shores of the Red Sea is home to many people who were evacuated from their villages after the massacre unleashed by Hamas in the border area with the Gaza Strip on October 7.
In total, about 250,000 Israelis have left their homes because of the war in Gaza and fighting on the border with Lebanon.
