The correspondent of HotNews.ro in Chisinau talked to several residents of the capital of Moldova and asked them what problems there are in the city and what they expect from the local elections on November 5.

Citizens of the Republic of Moldova, including the municipality of Chisinau, will elect their mayors and local councils in almost 900 settlements of the country. More precisely, during the elections on November 5, 898 mayors and 11,058 deputies of local councils will be elected.

27 candidates are vying for the post of mayor of Chisinau.

To recreate the atmosphere of the capital of Moldova before the local elections, we went through almost all sectors of the capital. First of all, we were interested in how the locals see their future mayor.

“The mayor at work should be for the citizens, at home – for the family,” answered one woman.

“Do what he said,” declared one man.

“To think about the people, to think about our financial problems, the service problems: it’s hard for people to find work because the wages are so low,” said one woman.

“First of all, have driving education to make the city more mobile, more flexible,” said one man.

“To love one’s people. Let him himself be self-disciplined in what concerns his life, from all points of view,” said the young woman.

Such problems as infrastructure, traffic, public transport or the economic situation are among those listed by the interviewees.

Among the candidates for the position of mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau is the current mayor Ion Ceban, who was supported by the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova in the previous elections in 2019.

Recently, he created his own political formation – the National Alternative Movement. The ruling party “Action and Solidarity” proposed the current deputy and president of the Parliament’s National Security Commission Liliana Karp in the elections.

According to the latest polls, they are likely to get the most votes. The population of the municipality of Chisinau is 779,300.
