Hundreds of people marched in solidarity with Palestine on Saturday in Bucharest. Demonstrators carried Palestinian flags, placards demanding an end to the conflict and chanted “Stop the war!”, “Stop the genocide,” “Down with the occupation!”, “Down with Israel,” “Freedom! We want justice!” and “Free Palestine”, according to News.ro
Solidarity marchers gathered in Bucharest’s University Square starting at 12:30 p.m. and shortly after 1 p.m. they laid a wreath at the monument to the heroes of the 1989 Revolution in Romania in memory of the Palestinians who died during the conflict that started last month.
They brought with them posters with messages written in Romanian or English, such as “The Palestinian people demand an end to the occupation”, “One Holocaust does not justify another” or “Stop the massacre of innocents!”.
Supporters of Palestine claim that Israel is “mercilessly killing children, women” and that this is not the first such action, saying it is a “series” of events against Palestinians.
“We are all praying from here that this is the last episode of this series, that this carnage is over. Let there be peace for all, we are tired of wars! We don’t say good afternoon, or good evening, or good morning, or good evening, we say Salam alaikum, peace be upon you, that’s our greeting,” said one protester.
The column of demonstrators is surrounded by gendarmes.
