Mircea Lucescu was one of the most successful Romanian coaches in history.

Having reached the age of 78, Il Luc announced his final retirement from football on Friday, having coached the last three and a half years at Dynamo Kyiv.

Lucescu was born on July 29, 1945 and at the age of 16 he started his career as a football player at the sports school No. 2 in Bucharest.

At the age of 18, he made his debut for “Dynamo” Bucharest, and after a loan from “Stiinc” he returned to “Dynamo”, with which, together with “Dynamo” players, he won seven championship titles (1964, 1965, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1990). , plus the Romanian Cup (1968).

During his 14 years with Dynamo, Lucescu senior scored 57 goals in 250 games in the first division and 15 matches in the European Cups.

In the period 1977-1982, he also played for “Korvinul Hunedoara”, where he was also a coach.

70 tackles and 9 goals are his figures for the Romanian national football team.

As a coach, he also coached the national team of Romania, Dynamo (Bucharest), Pisa, Brescia, Regiana, Rapid (Bucharest), Inter, Galatasaray, Besiktas, Zenit St. . Petersburg and the Turkish national team, but the real performances came with a trip to Ukraine.

Lucescu took charge of Shakhtar Donetsk in 2004 and spent 12 years there, managing to win the UEFA Cup in the 2008-2009 season, among many domestic titles, after defeating Werder Bremen in the final (2-1 after extra time).

In the last part of his career, Lucescu coached Dynamo Kyiv.
