Neymar will miss several months – The return will take place next spring

“The operation was successful. We are very satisfied with the result. It was about the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and the restoration of two meniscal injuries,” said Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar.

At the age of 31, Neymar will remain in hospital “between 24 and 48 hours, depending on the clinical evolution”, Lasmar added.

The length of the forward’s absence has not been specified, but such injuries usually take several months to recover, meaning the forward could be seen on the field sometime next spring.

Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar operated on Neymar after a fracture in his right leg, which the striker suffered in 2018.

The Brazilian star also sought the services of a Brazilian doctor this spring after ankle ligament damage kept him out for six months.

Neymar, currently contracted to Saudi club Al Hilal, suffered a torn ligament and meniscus in his left knee during the Seleção’s 2-0 defeat by Uruguay last month in Montevideo in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

On September 8, the striker broke the record for the most goals for the national team, which belonged to the legendary Pele, after he scored twice against Bolivia and reached the 79th level, now having two more goals than the “King”, according to Agerpres.
