Joe Biden believes Benjamin Netanyahu’s days as Israel’s prime minister are numbered, according to a report citing US officials.

Biden reportedly went so far as to suggest that Netanyahu consider what lessons he might share with his future successor, two administration officials cited by Politico said.

A U.S. official said he expected the Israeli prime minister would likely hold out for several more months, or at least until the early combat phase of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza is over, although all four officials noted the unpredictability of Israeli politics.

“Israeli society will have to come to terms with what happened,” said an anonymous official, quoted by Politico. “Ultimately, the prime minister’s office is responsible”

The administration’s bleak view of Netanyahu’s political future comes as the president and his foreign policy team struggle to engage and manage the Israeli leader diplomatically as his country engages in a complex and bloody struggle with Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that controls Gaza and attacks Israel on October 7.
