“During the past 24 hours, the enemy bombed 118 settlements in ten oblasts,” said the message of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihory Klymenko, published on social networks.

“This is the largest number of towns and villages that have been attacked since the beginning of the year,” he said.

One person died as a result of night shelling in the northeast of Kharkiv region and another in the south of Kherson region, local officials reported.

As a result of the attack, one resident of the Zaporizhia region was also killed, and in Nikopol in the south of the country, as a result of an attack by a Russian drone, one person was killed and four others were injured.

In addition, the Russian attack on an oil refinery in Kremenchuk in the center of the country, which did not result in casualties, according to Igor Klymenko, required the dispatch of more than a hundred firefighters, who extinguished the fire for several hours.

Since the offensive began in February 2022, Russian forces have fired millions of artillery shells into Ukrainian towns and villages near the front line, reducing many of them to ruins, especially in the east of the country.

Ukraine and its Western allies fear that Russia will increase its attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure as winter approaches, as it did last year. Ukraine’s air force said on Wednesday it had shot down 18 of 20 Russian drones launched overnight.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense said it had shot down two Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk and Kursk regions bordering Ukraine.
