On Monday, the Bolivian government announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel. The country’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the decision today, accusing Israel of committing crimes against humanity during its attacks on the Gaza Strip, Sky News reports.
La Paz also cut ties with Israel in 2009 to protest Israeli attacks on the Palestinian enclave that year.
Diplomatic relations were normalized again only in 2020 under the government of President Jeanine Anes.
In the same year, she was dismissed and replaced by the current president, Luis Arce.
