Despite its reputation as a reliable company, the Japanese firm is not immune to some technical glitches that can trigger recall campaigns: in the United States, Toyota has recalled more than 750,000 copies of Toyota Highlanderfor security issue.
Toyota Highlander: a safety issue
These vehicles are equipped with a A set of lower shields of the front bumper made of resin, secured with mounting tabs. In the event of a minor impact to the lower front bumper guard assembly that causes the mounting tabs to detach from the vehicle, one or more parts of the lower guard assembly may detach from the vehicle.
This phenomenon can cause danger on the road, because it increases the risk of an accident or injury for other road users.
About 751,000 copies at time of recall
These are the latest generation Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid models, produced between 2020 and 2023 : about 751,000 copies in the United States, and the Japanese manufacturer did not specify whether the problem affects units sold in Europe or the rest of the world. Toyota will notify affected owners of the issue by the end of December 2023, and they will be advised to contact their Toyota dealer for support.
For all affected vehicles, Toyota dealers will inspect the upper and lower mounting tabs and front bumper slots for damage. If no damage is found, dealers will install a new version of the defective items with an improved design. If damage is detected, dealers will replace the upper and/or lower protection of the front bumper free of charge, as well as install a new version of the incriminated elements here as well.
