Since its presentation this year, a new one Volvo EX30 is a real success: this small electric SUV won over the public, in particular, with its design, performance and technology. In response to high demand, Volvo has decided to increase its global production capacity and start production of the model at its European plant in Ghent, Belgium, from 2025.
“We are committed to selling the EX30 globally at an attractive price point that will make the transition to driving a Volvo electric car easier for more people and at the same time boost the company’s bottom line.”Jim Rowan, Managing Director of Volvo Cars, said on the occasion: “Adding production in Ghent is a logical decision as we want to meet the high demand for our electric vehicles”.
Volvo EX30: production in Europe in 2025
The new Volvo EX30 is already in production from this fall Zhangjiakou, China, and the first deliveries are planned for the end of this year. Volvo also decided to build the EX30 in Ghent, Belgium to increase its production capacity and meet the high demand in the European and global market. Thus, the Scandinavian firm strives to produce its cars as close as possible to its customers.
The decision also allows for manufacturing flexibility for what promises to be one of its flagship models in the coming years. As such, Volvo follows the same strategy as for its XC60 and XC40 SUVs, the most popular of its range, which are produced in both Europe and China.
Ambitious electrification strategy
Volvo has an ambitious electrification strategy that is all about sales only 100% electric cars by 2030 : Electric models are expected to account for half of global sales from the mid-2020s.
The EX30 is a key model to achieve these goals, as it should contribute to Volvo’s growth and profitability: thus, the small electric SUV is at the center of the Swedish manufacturer’s strategic transformation. The EX30 joins the XC40 and C40 on the assembly line in Ghent, making it the third all-electric Volvo model to be built in Europe.
The Volvo EX30 has already received numerous prestigious awards, such as Car of the Year from Sun (United Kingdom) as well as the best small SUV/crossover of the year awarded Sunday Times (UK).
