Aryna Sabalenko and Iga Svyatek train “on the court” at the 2023 Tournament of Champions
Arriving in Mexico, Aryna Sabalenko (1 WTA) and Iga Svyatek (2 WTA) found a complex that is still under construction. They are forced to practice on two fields provided by the hotel where they are staying.
Tomasz Viktorovski, coach of Pole Iga Svyanek, told about this situation.
“The main thing is that the surface is used around Thursday. If the field is already painted on this surface and cleaning is being done around the field, it may not be smooth sailing as stands and structures are built, but at least we will be able to train.
The first matches will take place on Sunday. I think everything will be ready on Saturday. We assume that everything will be fine” – Tomash Viktorovskyi.
The WTA decided late (in September) where this year’s competition would be held and reportedly spent $6 million to build a new arena in Cancun specifically to host the event.
Aryna Sabalenko publishes a video of the training court at the WTA Finals tournament:
“2 training courts until Saturday. 1 stringer in place.”
