Sandro Tonali, banned for 10 months after pleading guilty in sports betting scandal

Sandro Tonali was bought by Newcastle United this summer for €70 million, becoming the most expensive Italian player in history.

Along with Niccolo Zaniolo, he was found to be involved in a large-scale illegal betting scandal, accused of placing bets while playing for Milan.

Tonali recently admitted to a gambling addiction and the Italians announced that he would be banned for 10 months.

Another player involved in this scandal is Nicolo Fagioli, who has already been suspended for 7 months.

Tonali’s suspension would also be a disaster for the Italian national team, which would not be able to use him in the event of qualifying for the 2024 European Championship.
