The 1994 World Cup, organized in the United States of America, remains the greatest performance of the Romanian national football team. 30 years after this magical journey, Golden Generation is planning a grand event to be held at the National Arena in Bucharest.

Golden Generation, 2024 Ending Match

Romania reached its highest level at the 1994 World Cup (USA), where they reached the quarter-finals.

This is the greatest tricolor feat, which is currently impossible to accomplish.

Some members of the Golden Generation met on Monday to organize a grand event to mark the 30th anniversary of this great achievement.

In particular, they plan to organize an exhibition match at the National Arena in Bucharest, the last match of the generation that took Romanians to the streets, reports Digi Sport.

The meal was attended by Bohdan Stela, Florin Reduchoui, Florin Prunia, Marius Lakatus, Adrian Ilie, Miodrag Belodedicii, Ilie Dumitrescu, Gica Popescu, Ionuc Lupescu and Gica Mihali.

At the final tournament, which was held in the United States of America, Romania was placed in Group A along with Switzerland, the United States and Colombia.

Romania beat Colombia in the first round with a score of 3-1, but received a “cold shower” in the second round when they lost to Switzerland with a score of 4-1. Emotions dissipated in the last match in the group, when the tricolors managed to defeat the USA with a score of 1:0.

On 3 July 1994, at the Rose Bowl Stadium, Romania achieved their biggest ever victory, beating Argentina 3-2, after an incredible performance in which Ilie Dumitrescu (double) and Giuke Hagi scored for Angelo Jordenescu’s side.

Then the match against Sweden in the quarters, and after 90 minutes the score was 1:1. Tomasz Brolin opened the scoring in the 79th minute, and Reduchoi restored the tie with 120 seconds left.

In the 101st minute, Florin Reduchuyu made the score 2:1 with a shot from the penalty area.

Romania looked set to produce an amazing performance, but in the 115th minute they fell badly in phase when Sweden’s Kenneth Anderson rose to beat Florin Prun.

In the series, Miodrag Belodedici did not take the decisive penalty.

The Romanian national team consisted of 22 players: goalkeepers – Bohdan Stelea, Florin Prunia and Stefan Preda; defenders – Dan Petrescu, Daniel Prodan, Miodrag Belodedici, Gheorghe Mihali, Gica Popescu, Tibor Selimes and Corneliu Papura; midfielders – Gheorghe Hagi, Ionuc Lupescu, Dorinel Munteanu, Konstantin Halke, Basarab Panduru, Ovidiu Stanga and Julian Chirice; attackers – Florin Raduchoui, Ilie Dumitrescu, Ion Vladoui, Viorel Moldovan and Maryan Ivan.
