Bancorex Tower in the historical center of the capital will get a new face. Mayor General Nikushor Dan announced that he had signed a building permit for the building’s renovation and facade change. And the building in front of the tower facing Calea Victoriei will undergo changes, the part facing the CEC Palace will be cut off to be created as a public space.

  • “We have issued a construction permit for the Bancorex building, located at Calea Victoriei, No. 15, a symbolic street of the city in a protected area. In this case, as far as possible, a big urban planning mistake of the 90s is being corrected.
  • Spatial and volumetric reconfiguration, expansion of the building, exterior and landscaping works, as well as reconstruction of the underground parking lot will be carried out. The “Podium” is being reconstructed so that grass terraces can be arranged, which will expand the public space in the direction of the CEC building.
  • Works will also be carried out to increase the energy efficiency of the building, and with the partial removal of ceilings, the visibility of the CEC building and the “Viktoria” store will improve, the general manager announced on the Facebook page.

The term of works is 36 months. The validity period of the permit is 24 months from the date of issue, the period of time during which the authorized executive works must be started.

The Bancorex Tower was built in 1994 and functioned as an office building, considered one of the buildings that disfigured the city center.
