In March 2022, Stellantis revealed an all-new engine, a twin-turbo inline-six called the Hurricane, which is set to replace the HEMI V8 in the near future.

This 3.0-litre engine was offered in two versions: Standard Power (SO) offering over 400bhp and 610Nm of torque, along with High Power (HO) offering over 500bhp. and 650 Nm of torque. But it seems that an even more powerful configuration is in the works.

More powerful than a V8?

At a conference this week in Detroit on Stellantis’ plans to further electrify its lineup, Michael Bly, head of global powertrains at Stellantis, announced that the Hurricane engine will benefit an even more muscular version : “We have more power. We just haven’t revealed it yet. »

The exact figure for the HO version of the engine has yet to be revealed, but according to Automotive News, it could reach 520 hp, or by 35 hp. more than the HEMI V8. The Hurricane engine will not be offered exclusively in a six-cylinder version. Michael Bly also revealed that there were plans for a smaller version 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Can’t sell in Europe?

The Hurricane engine will not replace the famous Pentastar V6. Michael Bly explained that Stellantis will continue to invest in this engine, because today it is a reliable and economical block. He also noted that this V6 will be electrified in the near future.

As you’d expect, this type of engine, whether it’s the new six-cylinder Hurricane or even its four-cylinder variant, won’t be coming to Europe for obvious reasons of environmental standards. This engine will be equipped, in particular, with several models of American Stellantis brands, starting with Dodge and Jeep.
