A man was arrested on charges of posing as a mannequin in a shop window in Warsaw to steal jewelry after the program closed, BBC reports, citing news.ro.
The 22-year-old man, whose name has not been released by police, was photographed sitting motionless with a bag in one of the store’s windows.
The police said that after the end of the working day, the suspect went on a “hunt” in several departments, finally deciding on a stand with jewelry.
The man is accused of theft from the second shopping center. He is charged with burglary and faces up to ten years in prison.
Warsaw police said that employees and customers did not notice anything unusual while the man was standing in the window among other mannequins.
Police said he stood still until he “felt it was safe” and then walked around various departments after closing time before taking the jewelry.
In the end, the security forces noticed him.
The man is accused of two more crimes. In the first, Police say he had a late dinner at a restaurant in another shopping center and waited until it closed.
Police said he then went into a clothing store and “changed into new clothes” before returning to the restaurant.
He was caught on surveillance cameras sneaking under the partially ajar door of a clothing store.
Robert Shumiata, a police spokesman, said the third incident occurred at a different address where a man waited until closing time and then “took money from several cash registers and attempted to steal other items.”
The police released a photo of the suspect’s arrest.
The man was placed in custody for three months, the Warsaw Prosecutor’s Office reports.
