It was officially approved by the European Commission in November 2022. The Euro-7 standard was supposed to enter into force on July 1, 2025 for passenger carswhile its application to heavy-duty vehicles was scheduled for July 1, 2027. One of the most significant changes it makes is expanding the scope of application to polluting particles emitted by brakes and tires, in particular the microplastics they form. Unlike previous Euro standards that focused mainly on engine emissions, This measure marks a major change in environmental regulation.

2025…but eventually 2030!

One step forward, two steps back at the European Commission. If we’re talking in the past tense, it’s because after leaving the door open for synthetic fuel on its way to “all electric” and seriously diluting air purification standard Euro-7, which is expected in 2025, now she just voted to move it to 2030. We remind you that this should also be taken into account emissions not related to the internal combustion enginesuch as brake pad dust or tire particles. In the end, this will be the main difference from the current Euro 6 standard, as the lowering of the emission thresholds of the engine itself has not been definitively confirmed.

According to them, the implementation of the EURO-7 standard, as originally planned, will take place forced to carry out expensive developments, which would further highlight their weaknesses against Chinese manufacturers in the competition for an electric car, despite the fact that it is imposed by the same Commission. To be fully tested, the text still needs to be negotiated between member state governments. But there is little doubt that they will show their approval, including Germany, Italy and France, countries where the car industry is an important part of the national economy…
