The number of Ukrainians who believe there are serious misunderstandings between the country’s political and military leadership, as well as those who believe the West is tired of supporting Ukraine, has increased significantly over the past year, according to a poll released Monday. quoted by “Ukrainian Pravda”.
The poll shows that the percentage of Ukrainians who believe that there are “serious conflicts” between Kyiv’s political leaders and military chiefs has risen from 14 to 32 percent over the past year.
The majority of Ukrainians (54%) still believe that they “act harmoniously as a team”, but this percentage has decreased from 71% in September 2022.
The share of those who believe that the West is fed up with Ukraine, that its support is waning and that the West wants to make concessions to Russia in general has increased significantly – from 15% in September 2022 to 30% in October 2023.
“In all regions, there is a tendency to increase the percentage of those who believe in the existence of conflicts between the political authorities and the army command, as well as in the fact that the West is fed up with Ukraine,” – notes the International Institute of Sociology in Kyiv, which conducted the survey.
The survey was conducted from September 29 to October 9, and it is possible that the resumption of hostilities between Hamas and Israel on October 7 could have had some effect on Ukrainians’ fears about the weakening of Western support for their country.
But US President Joe Biden’s administration has assured that fighting in the Middle East will not affect support for Kyiv, and the White House on Sunday announced a new aid package it wants to pass through Congress.
But the legislature in Washington is currently deadlocked after the House of Representatives, the lower house of Congress, was left without a leader in early October.
The survey by the International Institute of Sociology in Kyiv was conducted by telephone on a sample of 1,010 people from all regions of Ukraine, except Crimea, which was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014, Ukrainian Pravda reminds.
