Who has never dreamed of being behind the wheel of a spaceship? Just a few years ago, this question was asked by visitors to the auto show, stunned by the concepts of futuristic SUVs equipped with giant screens, and for some, without a steering wheel.
Today, such a futuristic model is a reality, and cars like the new IM LS6 are here to remind us. Part of a wave of new arrivals coming out of China every day, IM Motors’ LS6 is a sporty electric SUV with one big screen.
In addition to the giant horizontal dashboard screen, the LS6 IM has a third large vertical touchscreen for both climate control and infotainment systems, as well as controlling all of the car’s controls.
Almost 800 hp. under the hood of this SUV
The atmosphere worthy of a spaceship allows this SUV to claim the honorary title of “the most digital production car in the world”, which is on par with the IM L7 sedan. Add to that the Yoke steering wheel, like the Tesla Model S Plaid and other Lexus RZs, and the futuristic effect is further accentuated.
Just as impressive, but almost disguised under the rounded and reassuring forms of a modern SUV, this model has the unexpected power of most electric models. The top version of the IM LS6 is equipped with two electric motors, four-wheel drive and 787 horsepowermore than the Ferrari Purosangue with its 725 horsepower V12.
All this power allows the LS6 to reach a top speed of 252 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.48 seconds. The 100 kWh battery provides a range of 702 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. Lowering the level and power, we find a version with 515 hp. and 760 km of autonomy, as well as power plant options of 340 and 314 hp.
Cheap and not for us
Currently, production by IM Motors, a joint venture between state-owned SAIC Motor, Zhangiang Hi-Tech and Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, is targeting the local market and they do not plan to export it.
Chinese prices for the IM LS6 range from RMB 230,000 to RMB 300,000, which at current exchange rates corresponds to around 30,000 and 39,000 euros.
